Comic Book Publishers

Just about every kid who grew up in the USA can readily name at least one favorite comic book hero from his childhood. Comic books have played a major role in America 's current and past entertainment culture. The comic book publishing world is vast and constantly changing. There are scores of comic book publishers, each with their own unique characters and styles of illustration.

It is the dream of many a comic book illustrator to break into this fun industry. Like the comic books themselves, publishers for comic books come in all shapes and sizes, and there are various resources to help you find them. One printed resource that may help you, and is available in bookstores, libraries, or Internet stores, is a guide called How to Self-Publish Your Own Comic Book: The Complete Resource Guide to the Business, Production, Distribution, Marketing and Promotion of Comic Books. It is the only reference of its kind, providing complete information on all aspects of the comic book industry and publishing process.

Another guide has been compiled called Who's Who in Comic Book Publishers: Guide for Creative Talent, by Dan Stewart. Unfortunately, this resource is currently out of print, but you may be able to find it in your local library or on Ebay.

Currently, the best way to find out who's who in the dynamic industry of comic book publishing is through the extensive listings of almost 200 publishers of comic books, found on the Internet.
